The more books you read, the more those books become connected to every other book ever written.

Eventually, it's more like one really, really big book whose pages keep falling in and out of order.

Which makes discussions about canon really interesting. I had a particularly vivid image in class one evening of a Derrida-inspired 3D trace model that mapped how literary works intersected and diverged through history as various books and styles rose and fell and returned to popularity. It kind of hurt my head but it would be a fascinating project for some university with the computing and literary resources to make it work.

It's in my head but I can't imagine how to make the countless intertextual threads make sense to someone else.
